When starting a new art project, many steps can help you get a better end result. The creative process is not a step-by-step solution but rather a journey of research, imagination, and a lot of sketching.
The first step in the creative process is Brainstorm and Research. This step can look a bunch of different ways. Maybe you write down as many words that come to mind as possible, stretching your brain. Maybe you look on Pinterest to get inspiration and then go from there. Maybe you go on a walk and write down what you see and make a project from that inspiration. Then you research. What makes this topic special? What is the background information behind your subject matter? Do new words come to mind after you do your research?
The second step is making a mood board and sketching. Creating a mood board helps you visualize the project. Adding things like colors, textures, fonts, and images that you will draw inspiration from. The mood board should be a reflection of what your project will feel like and the overall colors and vibe of it. Then after creating your moodboard, it is time to sketch! Sketching is so important because it is another way for your brain to stretch itself. Instead of settling for your first idea, play around with layout, sizing, and overall ideas. Often your best idea isn't your first idea. Sketch many different variations and ideas to best get a concept and layout you like.
Next, we move on to creating your piece. After choosing a final concept it is time to carry out your design project. Whether that is a physical art piece or on your computer, it is time to create. Through the actual creation process, it is important to reevaluate as you are making it. Is this the look I was going for? Could I make this better? Another helpful tip is to get others to critique your piece. Often others can bring fresh new ideas and helpful tips to make your piece a masterpiece.
The creative process is a fun and unique process that creatives are lucky to partake in. Often we forget about the brainstorming and sketches, but those are just as important as your final piece.
